Beat is a basic unit of police functioning and is the cutting edge/interface between public and police. All the data pertaining to crime, criminals, vital installations, important places, religious places etc is collected and compiled in a beat book as per Punjab Police Rule (PPR). It is the duty of the Beat Constable to collect and compile the data in the beat book and use it as and when required. A beat constable has to collect different kinds covering Public Service Vehicle driver checking (PSV), ATM checking, Bank Checking, School Checking, Bad Character Checking, Checking of Vital Installation … etc.
